Canara Gold

Canara Gold

Canara Gold – Cherry Tomatoes. The fantastic Cornish weather has helped to bring us the first variety from our “Twelve Tomato” mix and it is quite possibly the sweetest of them all. These little balls of liquid sunshine are known as Canara Gold. Canara Gold is a bright orange round cherry tomato. The high sugar content makes this tomato irresistibly sweet and juicy. This variety is delicious eaten raw, roasted or cooked in Mediterranean dishes.     This week we are also looking forward to receiving our first crop of Quarto Cucumbers. We also are seeing a regular supply of mixed french beans and runner beans. We are looking forward to seeing this organic Cornish produce being used on menus throughout the South West so please follow us on Twitter and tweet us your pictures so we can share them with our followers. Peruvian Marigold

Peruvian Marigold

These leaves which at first glance appear very similar to marijuana plants could possibly be the “next big thing” to be used by chefs. Also known as Huacatay, Black Mint & Stinking Roger* Peruvian Marigold Leaves are widely used in South American dishes in countries such as Ecuador, Peru & Bolivia. With a powerful aroma these plants mix a zesty grapefruit and vibrant peppermint flavour. The distinct flavour of these leaves works in deserts or with fish or chicken dishes. These plants are growing locally and the season should run until the end of September/October. Tweet *(Wong , J, 2012, James Wong’s Home Grown Revolution, 2012, Orion Books)....
Canara Farm Update – 10/6/15

Canara Farm Update – 10/6/15

The past few days of glorious Cornish weather has given the speciality organic produce at Canara Farm some much needed sunlight. Lizard Leaf production is now in full swing and we are approximately 2/3 weeks away from the first crop of our 12 carefully selected tomatoes, mixed French beans, runner beans and artisan cucumbers. We are also pleased to have a small supply of micro cucumbers available now. The Micro or Asian Cucumber with yellow flower have a fresh and crunchy cucumber flavour which can be added to salads or used as a garnish ( as the supply of these is very limited please give us a call and we will ask Pete how many he is able to provide). Pete has also taken a few hours away from the fields to give some local chefs a chance to take a tour of Canara Farm and share his passion for growing. If you would like to take a few hours away from the kitchen and learn about the biodynamic farming techniques that Pete uses at Canara farm or to just to take a look around for some inspiration please give us a call and we will try to set up a tour. If you have started using Lizard Leaves or plan on putting any of the fantastic Canara Farm produce on your menus we would love to see some pictures so please share them with us on Twitter. Tweet...
