Produce Report…
Spanish/Moroccan produce
There seem to be significant prices rises for seasonal veg related to cold weather across the med and demand from the rest of Europe.
Onion Category
Onion prices continue to rise as a result of the impact on stock levels from the hot weather across Europe last summer
Large Spanish are slowly creeping up and red will not be far behind with a price hike in the markets
Potato Category Update
The effects of last year’s unprecedented growing season have been well documented. The lack of stored, quality graded potato, available for current demand and future storage is now being realised.
We forecast shortages and price pressure continuing right through to the mid-year and the start of this season’s new crop.
- Graded Chipping Potatoes – slightly smaller in size – go with trusted brands to ensure best size and quality – we recommend Duchy Fries and Westcountry Fries in Devon
- Salad Mid Potatoes - harvest quality has been affected by the extreme conditions.
Higher prices will continue to reflect stored crop levels against ongoing high demand in this category.
